Executive Directors (EDs) sit on the IMF Executive Board, which is responsible for conducting the day-to-day business of the Fund. There are 25 EDs representing various 'constituencies' - while major advanced economies have their own ED, smaller/poorer countries are grouped together (e.g. 45 African countries have only 3 ED chairs between them).
