Special Drawing Rights

An international reserve asset, issued to countries by the IMF in proportion to their quotas, as a form of debt free liquidity. SDR allocations require 85% majority board approval, giving the US veto power. In 2021, the IMF issued a general allocation of SDR 456 billion (US$650 billion) to help countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
